Illustration Friday - Kernel

This weeks Illustration Friday topic is "kernel." This topic was super hard for me. Apparently a peach pit has a kernel inside it, so that's what I went with.

This was one of those paintings where nothing seemed to go how I wanted it to from the sketch to the final. But I'm happy that I was able to paint a little bit looser, so I'm sharing it even though I'm not super pleased with it.

Anyone else have trouble with kernel? Here's hoping next week's topic inspires me more :0)

  1. Pretty and happy to see your return to watercolor this week. I can't wait until the real summer fruits show up at my local produce shop...so far I have bought a few cherries but this makes me crave a peach!!!

  3. Ya sometimes the specific topics like "kernel" are a lot harder than more open topics like "sight" ... but I don't think it's a bad thing to focus ourselves to work on stuff that isn't inspiring or comfortable every time.

And in the end I wouldn't have noticed your struggles when looking at the painting. I think this is a lovely watercolor.

  4. I agree with Nick, the watercolour is lovely, the struggle is in your head but fine on paper. love that you just went ahead and did a literal 'kernel' - I got so stuck I didn't do anything, which doesn't help much!
